Job Description

A leading academic medical center in Hartford, CT is seeking a Physician Assistant to join its Surgical Critical Care team. Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) play a vital role within a multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality care to complex, critically ill surgical and trauma patients in the ICU.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Working collaboratively with physicians and care teams, the Physician Assistant will:
    • Perform comprehensive physical examinations and clinical assessments
    • Develop and implement medical, educational, and psychosocial care plans
    • Manage critically ill ICU patients within established protocols
    • Participate in ventilator management, resuscitation, and critical care procedures
    • Order and interpret diagnostic tests and labs
    • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to evaluate and adjust treatment plans
    • Identify cases requiring escalation or specialist referral

The patient population includes:

  • Complex trauma
  • Transplant
  • Vascular surgery
  • General surgery
  • Neurosurgery
  • Interventional radiology
  • Additional critical care cases based on service needs

Qualifications

  • Required:
    • Active or eligible Connecticut Physician Assistant license
    • NCCPA Certification
    • Minimum 1?2 years of recent ICU experience as a PA
    • Demonstrated ability to independently manage critically ill patients
    • Proficiency in ventilator management, resuscitation, and ICU procedures
