Physician Assistant Outpatient - General Cardiology- San Antonio, Texas
Position Summary
The Outpatient General Cardiology Physician Assistant (PA) will provide high-quality cardiovascular care to patients in the ambulatory clinic setting at University Health. The PA will work collaboratively with cardiologists, primary care providers, nursing staff, and other members of the multidisciplinary cardiovascular team to evaluate, manage, and educate patients with a wide range of cardiovascular conditions. Full-time, outpatient only position. Monday–Friday schedule with no call responsibilities
Essential Responsibilities
• Perform new patient evaluations, follow-up visits, and urgent visits in the outpatient cardiology clinic.
• Conduct comprehensive cardiovascular assessments including history, physical examination, and interpretation of relevant diagnostic data (e.g., ECG, echocardiogram, stress testing, lipid panels).
• Manage common cardiovascular conditions including hypertension, hyperlipidemia, stable coronary artery disease, heart failure, arrhythmias, and valvular heart disease.
• Participate in care coordination with referring physicians, primary care, and subspecialty services to optimize patient outcomes.
• Provide patient education and counseling regarding disease processes, medications, lifestyle modifications, and prevention strategies.
• Assist with medication titration, prior authorizations, and follow-up of laboratory and imaging results.
• Support quality initiatives, guideline adherence, and clinical pathway implementation within the cardiology clinic.
Additional Responsibilities
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case discussions.
• Assist in the development of outpatient care protocols and patient education materials.
• Contribute to clinic efficiency initiatives and access improvement projects.
• Participate in research, registry, or quality improvement efforts, if applicable.
Qualifications
• Master’s degree in nursing or physician assistant studies required.
• Current Texas license as a PA-C.
• Certification in specialty area (PA-C) required; board certification preferred.
• Minimum 1–2 years of cardiovascular or internal medicine experience preferred.
• BLS and ACLS certification required.
• Strong clinical assessment, communication, and organizational skills.
