Job Description

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner-Open to newly certified Psych NP’s

We invite a caring Psychiatric Mental Health NP to join a thriving outpatient primary care practice in this historic, riverside city 45 minutes from Portland and 15 minutes from Augusta.  This practice is operated by a 190 bed regional medical center in north Augusta.  This physician led medical center is the region’s largest private employer and Maine’s third largest healthcare system, committed to positively impacting the health of the community through services and involvement.  Newly certified Psych NPs are encouraged to apply.  This is an equal opportunity employer.  An updated practice model calls for the inclusion of a mental health provider in each of the hospital’s outpatient primary care groups.  Your role is to collaborate with physicians and primary care APPs to support well-rounded patient health.  Other behavioral health providers are on site here.  Including care management and counseling services.  You will join as a psychiatric clinical leader, providing direct patient care and aiding others in decision making, developing and implementing treatment plans and improving overall care quality.  You will make psychiatric evaluations and provide counseling and medication recommendations for patients- mostly adults, along with some families.  You will have an excellent referral network and plenty of support.  Enjoy a convenient weekday schedule (32 hours/week with patients, 8 hours admin time) practicing in a modern, comfortable setting.  Join a respected medical staff helping serve over 65,000 residents of the scenic Kennebec Valley.  The Augusta medical center is home to an unopposed Family Medicine Residency Program, so opportunities to help guide residents and fellows may also be available.  You will be employed by the hospital and will earn a competitive compensation package including relocation assistance, a guaranteed salary.  Insurance (liability, health, dental, vision), substantial earned time for vacations plus paid holidays, paid time off plus a budget for your CME, and your choice of retirement plans.  Generous multiyear medical education loan repayment is also available.

Gardiner is a diverse community of 6000 people alongside the scenic Kennebec River.  The historic downtown district is home to an assortment of shops, eateries and services.  A city park provides open green space for events or relaxing.  Chose your home among numerous welcoming neighborhoods or any of several surrounding communities.  For this outpatient position you could commute from anywhere.  Just minutes upriver, Maine’s historic capital city Augusta, is home to over 20,000 residents.  This growing college town is a family friendly community offering libraries, museums and other historic and cultural resources along with an impressive shopping district featuring dozens of unique shops, name brand and big box stores and restaurants.  The civic center here imports entertainment including sporting events, concerts and more.  This part of Maine offers an impressive selection of recreational choices that include kayaking, whitewater rafting, fishing, hunting cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and more.  Enjoy local hiking, running and biking trails, award winning golf courses and easily accessible ski resorts.  Gardiner is just 45 minutes from Portland-one of the most desirable cities in New England.  Portland’s active social scene includes the popular Old Port district of eateries, nightclubs and literally hundreds more restaurants serving the finest seafood, plus international fare.  Additional amenities include the convenient international jetport, exciting semipro sports teams, picturesque harborside dining, numerous galleries and museums, live theater, an acclaimed symphony orchestra and much more.  Boston is 2.5 hours from Gardiner.
